In the not too distant future, this could well be a reality for all of us and the next generation, because more and more species are nearing extinction each day.
Species:Giant Panda
Number alive:2000
Estimated time till extinction: only 25 years.
Threat:Humans destroying their natural environment. For example, trees being cut down leaving the pandas without bamboo, their main source of food.
Species:Tortoise
Threat:Being killed and stripped of their shells, for use as ornaments or fashion accesories.
Species:Shark
Threat:Sick hunters catch them they cut off their fins which are used to make soup, and then throw them back in the water to die a painfull death.
Species:Tiger
Number still alive:7000
Estimated time till extinction:50 years
Threat:Hunters killing them for their skins which are then made into things like tiger-skin rugs.
Species: African elephant
Number still alive:600'000
Threat:Being killed for their tusks, which are used for jewellery or ornaments
Species:Rhinoceros
Number still alive:15'000
Estimated time till exticntion;75 years
Threat:Cruel hunters killing the rhinos for their horns, which are then sold on to make medicine (some believe they have healing properties) or to make ornamental knife handles?!
Species:Gorrilla
Threat:Being killed for their meat and sold as a delicacy in markets
Species:Black Bear
Number still alive:500'000
Threat:Being poached for their skins which are then ised to make things like hats or coats.
